At The Technology Advancement Center (TAC), we’re proud to celebrate the women who are leading the charge in cybersecurity, technology, and operations every day. To spotlight their achievements and insights, we asked them a few questions—meet these inspiring women below:

Alexis Davis
Chief Operating Officer, Technology Advancement Center (TAC)
What challenges have you faced as a woman in tech and cyber, and how have they shaped your career?
“Being a woman in tech and cybersecurity hasn’t always been easy. With female leadership representation at only about 18%, the lack of mentorship is noticeable. I’ve always focused on the work and building great teams, but you can’t help but notice when there are far fewer women around. Over time, that can affect confidence. Instead of letting it hold me back, I’ve used it as motivation to push forward, keep learning, and carve out my own space in this field.

Most importantly, I’ve built a strong network and continue to cultivate lasting relationships. Now, I’m passionate about mentoring and creating opportunities for other women in cybersecurity—so that, one day, the next generation barely notices a disparity at all.” – Alexis Davis

Katie Spiegel

What advice would you give to women considering a career in cyber?
“Be proud of who you are and the unique perspectives and experiences you bring to the table! The challenges we face in the field and in our daily lives allow us to solve problems in ways others wouldn’t think to do. Sometimes this can feel alienating, and you won’t want to speak up about less conventional ideas or solutions. But those are often the ones that will improve cybersecurity and our work environments for the better. Be confident, stand your ground, and you can really make a difference.” – Katie Spiegel

Tina Bohse

What’s been the most rewarding moment in your career within national security or operations support?
“One very exciting part about what we do at the TAC is innovation. The ability to marry innovation with mission is extremely rewarding. We are prototyping, integrating and testing systems here that when deployed operationally “in the field” will have a huge impact on the effectiveness of our warfighters. Knowing that what we do here matters to the greater good is the best part of my job.” – Tina Bohse

Amanda Hammond

“A career in cybersecurity is an exciting and impactful path to take! Here is my advice to help you thrive:
1. Leverage Your Passion and Curiosity
Cybersecurity is all about problem-solving and adapting to new challenges. If you have an interest in technology, critical thinking, or helping to protect people and systems from threats, you’re already on the right track.
2. Build a Strong Foundation
Start by gaining a solid understanding of basic cybersecurity principles. There are so many online resources available, like Cybrary, HacktheBox, and TryHackMe.
3. Find Mentors
Look for mentors who are already in the cybersecurity field. They will be more than happy provide advice, share insights about their own career paths, and help you navigate challenges.
4. Advocate for Diversity and Inclusion
Women in cybersecurity are in a unique position to challenge the “status quo” and set an example for others to follow. Remember that your voice matters, and you can influence the culture within the industry that will help set the stage for future women to follow.” – Amanda Hammond
